What should I pack in my hospital bag for delivery?

Almost around the end of the eighth month of your pregnancy, you need to start making a list of things
and packing a hospital bag to prep up for the delivery. You really do not know the exact time of
delivery so it’s better you have your stuff ready in case of an unexpected rush to the hospital.
You will need your essentials during labour and even after the  birth of your baby. Here is a list of
some must-haves and good-to-have things to pack for your hospital or birth centre stay-

  • A soft robe or nightgown- You need one or two comfortable, loose robes or gowns for labour purpose and even after that. It is more comfortable than the hospital gowns provided and you can easily walk in the hallways wearing those.

  • ID cards and Hospital file- Make sure to keep your ID proof and all your essential hospital records and reports, you will need them for the hospital documentation.

  • Cash and change- Keep some cash and change handy, you may require to pay for additional things in hospital in case of emergencies. But avoid keeping too much of cash with you.

  • Toiletries- Pack your toothbrush, tissues, bodywash, shampoo, cosmetics and everything you need handy. You can keep extra plastic bags, in case you may need.

  • Comfortable small pillow- The hospital pillow may not be too comfortable so having your own pillow will help you relax.

  • Flip-flops and socks- Flip flops or slippers would be needed for going to the washroom and for walking around the hospital halls.

  • Entertainment- Load your phone with soothing music which will help you to relax. Also, you may like to watch movies for entertainment.

  • A journal or books- You may want to write about your post delivery thoughts, memories of your little one’s first day or track baby’s feeding routine, so keep a journal and pens with you. If you love to read, books will help to pass your time in the hospital, specially parenting guide books.

  • Massage oil and nipple cream- In case you need a massage, having a massage oil will help. Your nipples may get chapped from the baby feeding, so have a nipple cream handy.

  • Phone and charger- It’s something you won’t be able to survive without. And right now, you would surely like to update your folks about the big news of baby’s arrival.

  • Glasses or lens- If you have eyeglasses, they are a must for you to keep. Taking lens to the hospital is not needed, however, you can keep your pair of lens and liquid.

  • Comfortable undergarments- Be prepared with nursing bra and a couple of other well-fitting bras. You will need comfortable panties as well. Also keep sanitary napkins for yourself as you will bleed post delivery.

  • Soft towels and napkins-  Both your baby and you would need towels, so make sure you don’t forget them. Napkins and wet wipes will come handy for diaper changing and feeding.

  • Warm baby blanket- To keep your baby warm don’t forget to buy a small blanket for the little one.

  • Home-going outfit for yourself- Considering the weather conditions, keep a comfortable and loose-fitting outfit for returning home.

  • Home-going outfit for your baby- Keep onesies or bodysuits, socks and a cap and cover your baby well before bringing him home.

Once you’ve sorted your things to take to the hospital, you’re good to go and one step closer to the baby’s arrival bringing joy to your life. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY?

Obstetrics and gynaecologist are doctors specialising in two different aspects of the female
reproductive system. Often they are confused as the same people. The reason for that being
that a lot of maternity doctors qualify as Ob-Gyn, which means they hold a degree to deal with
both the aspects of the female reproductive system.

An Obstetrics deals with pregnant women, unborn children, labour and delivery. They also take care
of the patient a short while after the delivery of the child too. Their main job is to take care of any
issues and complications that may arise during the period of pregnancy. Be it related to the mother.
The unborn child, or to the newborn, an Obstetrics is a person to go to. They also ensure that labour
and delivery are carried out without any complications. There can be a number of complications
arising during pregnancy like ectopic pregnancy, fetal distress caused by compression.
They also deal with problems arising with the placenta or high blood pressure. They are like guides
who help in getting the baby to this world safely by advising the mother about things to be done and
not to be done all throughout the pregnancy. Even after pregnancy, the obstetrics ensures that the
mother and the child stay healthy as they transition into their routine and the baby gets adjusted well
with everything that is new around it. So, basically, the medical specialty of the obstetrics is pregnancy
and childbirth.
A gynaecologist, on the other hand, deals with the ailments, disorders, or diseases related to the
female reproductive organs that are the uterus, vagina, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. They
also treat problems related to bowel, bladder, and urinary system as all these organs are very closely
related to the female reproductive organ. They basically treat all the diseases that are associated with
the reproductive tract. Unlike obstetrics, a woman visits a gynaecologist more often for routine
check-ups for the wellness of their reproductive tracts. They also perform certain surgical procedures
like:
Tubal ligation – a permanent form of birth control
Hysterectomy- removal of the uterus
Oophorectomy – removal of the ovaries
Salpingectomy – removal of the fallopian tubes
Cone biopsy -remove precancerous cells in the cervix identified during a pap test

Usually, a gynaecologist is also referred to as an ob-gyn.The ob-gyn is a doctor that takes care of one of the most intimate areas of your body. It is, therefore, necessary to make a sound choice before making a decision about which doctor to go to. It is better to go with the references given by other people as they have already experienced their services. You can find some of the best gynecologist in Noida, at Motherland Hospital. The experts here are specialised not just in child birth but also in prenatal and post-natal care. Making a choice is important as you will only open up about something so personal only once you are comfortable.
